POOL ENROLLMENT AS OF AUGUST 2010: 26,762 Health Insurance Reform Update: On March 23, 2010, President Obama signed the Patient Protection & Affordable Care Act (P.L. 111-148) into law. The Act contains a provision (Sec. 1101) for a new federal high risk health insurance pool program to be established for individuals with a preexisting medical condition who have been uninsured for at least 6 months when they apply. Enrollees in the new federal pool program will pay standard market premium rates and their coverage will not be subject to any preexisting condition exclusion. Funds for the Federal Pool are limited, so eligible applicants should apply as soon as possible.

The Pool account number being used ends in the number XXXXX-9881. You should not attempt to cash checks with this account number. The Pool does not issue any checks from this account and the Pool is not liable for any of these fraudulent checks. If you receive one of these fraudulent checks, immediately contact your local police department and the Consumer Services Division of your state’s Attorney General’s Office. Based upon preliminary information we have received, perpetrators are sending fraudulent Pool checks to persons who are attempting to sell items online (such as Ebay and Craigslist). Another scheme is an “orphanage” scam. We are in the process of obtaining more details about these scams and reporting information to the authorities.
